PDF text is extracted locally. A document excerpt and your prompts are sent directly to the AI endpoint you choose only after you approve cloud use.

The interactive tool loads in your browser.

How to summarize and chat with a PDF using your own AI endpoint

1into1 extracts the PDF text locally first. Only after you approve the data-sharing notice does the browser send a limited document excerpt and recent chat messages directly to the AI endpoint you selected.

  1. Choose the PDF you want to summarize or question.
  2. Wait while the text is extracted locally. Pages with little usable text can use the local OCR fallback.
  3. Choose Groq, OpenAI, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, or a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint.
  4. Enter your own API key when the selected cloud provider requires one, or configure a local custom endpoint.
  5. Read and check the consent notice, then approve it only if you want to send the excerpt to that provider.
  6. Use Executive Summary, Key Action Items, Explain Like I am 5, or enter your own question.
  7. Review the AI response against the source PDF before relying on important claims.

A practical example

A 90-page report can be extracted locally first. When you ask for an executive summary, the current workflow sends only the first 30,000 characters of the extracted text plus recent chat context to the provider you approved, rather than uploading the PDF file itself through a 1into1 AI proxy.

Common questions

Is the PDF itself uploaded to the AI provider?

The current AI workflow extracts text locally and sends text in the chat request. It does not send the PDF file itself through a 1into1 AI proxy.

How much document text is sent?

The current request limits the document context to the first 30,000 characters of extracted text.

Are earlier chat messages sent too?

Yes. The provider request includes up to the six most recent chat messages in addition to the document excerpt.

Can scanned PDFs work?

The shared extraction pipeline can run local English OCR on pages that do not contain enough usable digital text, then include recognized text in the extracted document output.

Do I have to consent before anything is sent?

Yes. The send action stops until the current cloud data-sharing notice is checked. Consent resets when the file, provider or custom endpoint changes.

Where is my API key stored?

The current app keeps the third-party API key in browser session storage rather than persistent local storage. Provider, custom model and custom endpoint preferences can be stored locally in the browser.

Does 1into1 proxy the AI request?

No. The browser calls the configured provider or custom endpoint directly with fetch. Provider terms, retention policies, quotas and charges apply separately.

Can I use a local AI server?

Yes. The Custom / Local option defaults to an OpenAI-compatible localhost endpoint and can be changed. A custom endpoint does not require a key unless your server requires one.

Will the AI always be correct?

No. The prompt asks the model to answer from the supplied document excerpt, but model outputs can still be incomplete or wrong. Verify important answers against the PDF.
