How to straighten a crooked scanned PDF
Correct a small consistent tilt in a scanned PDF locally. Use the first-page preview to estimate or fine-tune one angle, then apply that selected correction across the document.
- Choose the scanned PDF you want to straighten.
- Use Auto-Detect Tilt on the first-page preview or adjust the angle manually.
- Fine-tune the correction between -10° and +10° while watching the preview.
- Straighten and download the PDF.
- Inspect several pages to confirm the same correction angle is suitable across the document.
A practical example
If a scanner feeder produced a ten-page document with the same slight clockwise lean on every page, estimate the tilt from page 1, fine-tune it if needed, then apply that angle to the full PDF.
Common questions
Does Auto-Detect check every page?
No. The current Auto-Detect control estimates the tilt from the first-page preview. The selected angle is then applied across the PDF, so inspect multiple pages when the scan may have inconsistent skew.
Can I adjust the angle manually?
Yes. Fine Tilt Angle allows adjustments from -10° to +10° in 0.2° steps.
Does straightening run OCR?
No. Deskew changes page alignment. Use OCR PDF separately when you need a searchable text layer.
Can deskewing help before OCR?
Yes when skew is interfering with text-line alignment. OCR systems such as Tesseract document deskewing as a useful preprocessing step for skewed scans.
Is the PDF uploaded for straightening?
The Deskew PDF workflow runs locally in your browser.
