How to extract embedded images from a PDF
Scan a PDF for embedded raster images and export the decoded images as PNG files at their detected pixel dimensions, without rendering the entire page as an image.
- Choose the PDF containing the photos, figures or raster graphics you want.
- Run Scan & Extract Embedded Images.
- Review the images found and their pixel dimensions.
- Download individual PNG files or download all extracted images as a ZIP.
- Use PDF to Image instead when you need whole PDF pages rendered as JPG, PNG or WebP.
A practical example
If a report contains a 2400×1600 embedded photograph placed inside a page layout, Extract Images can recover that raster image at the decoded 2400×1600 pixel dimensions rather than creating a screenshot of the entire PDF page.
Common questions
Does this export the original JPEG file bytes?
Not necessarily. The current extractor decodes supported embedded raster images through the PDF rendering layer and exports them as PNG files at the detected pixel dimensions.
Does it preserve the embedded image dimensions?
Yes for successfully extracted raster images. The output records the decoded image width and height and exports the bitmap at those pixel dimensions.
Will it extract vector drawings?
No. The extractor targets embedded raster images. Pure vector artwork is different from an embedded bitmap image.
What if no images are found?
The PDF may contain only vector drawings, text or image structures the current extractor cannot decode. Use PDF to Image when you need the visible page itself as an image.
Is the PDF uploaded?
The extraction workflow runs locally in your browser.
