Protect PDF
Add standard 128-bit password protection locally and download the encrypted PDF copy.

How to password-protect a PDF locally
Create an encrypted copy that requires a password to open. The current 1into1 Protect PDF workflow uses 128-bit PDF encryption locally and does not expose separate printing, copying or editing-permission controls.
- Choose the PDF you want to protect.
- Enter and confirm the document password.
- Run Encrypt & Protect PDF.
- Download the protected copy.
- Close and reopen the downloaded file in a normal PDF reader to verify that the password is required.
A practical example
A confidential report can be protected with a password before it is shared. The recipient needs that password to open the encrypted copy.
Common questions
What kind of password does 1into1 add?
The current tool uses the entered password as the document-open/user password and also as the owner password while applying 128-bit PDF encryption.
Can I separately block printing, copying or editing?
No. The current Protect PDF interface does not expose separate permissions controls for printing, copying or editing.
Does protection rasterize or OCR the PDF?
No. The qpdf-based protection worker performs a content-preserving encryption rewrite rather than rendering pages into images.
Can I protect a PDF that already has a password?
Unlock the existing protection first, then apply the new password.
Is the PDF uploaded?
The protection workflow runs locally in a dedicated browser Worker.
