How to Compare Two PDF Versions Side by Side

Review an original PDF and a revised PDF page by page with side-by-side viewing, zoom and local browser processing.

Compare two PDFs

Use side-by-side view for broad document review

Side-by-side comparison is useful when you need to read an original PDF next to a revised copy and visually check page layout, wording, signatures, stamps, diagrams or other visible changes.

1into1 loads both files locally and displays the corresponding pages together so you can move through the document without uploading the PDFs to a normal server-side comparison service.

Start with the same page in both documents

Choose the original PDF as Document A and the revised PDF as Document B, then begin the comparison. Page navigation follows the larger of the two page counts, so extra or missing pages can still be reviewed.

If one document has been reordered substantially, visual page-by-page comparison becomes harder because page 5 in one file may no longer correspond to page 5 in the other.

Use zoom for small visual details

Increase zoom when you need to inspect fine changes such as shifted text blocks, altered figures, signature placement, margins or small formatting differences.

A visual review can reveal changes that are difficult to notice when opening the two PDFs in separate tabs and switching back and forth.

Switch to overlay when alignment matters

When both versions use nearly the same page geometry, overlay mode can make moved or changed elements easier to see because the rendered pages are combined into one high-contrast comparison view.

Use side by side for reading and context, then switch to overlay for a closer visual check of pages that should align.

Visual comparison is not a semantic legal diff

1into1 Compare PDF is a visual review tool. It does not classify insertions, deletions or legal wording changes, and it does not generate a formal change report.

Adobe Acrobat Pro provides a more advanced Compare Files workflow that analyzes document differences and can produce a detailed comparison report. Use the workflow that matches the level of review you need.
