An interactive PDF form contains real form fields
A fillable PDF contains interactive controls that a PDF reader can identify separately from the visible page. Adobe describes fillable fields such as text inputs, checkboxes and other selectable controls that react when the pointer moves over them.
1into1 reads the PDF AcroForm structure and turns supported fields into browser inputs so you can fill them without manually positioning text over the page.
The current 1into1 filler supports three field types
The Fill PDF tool currently edits AcroForm text fields, checkboxes and dropdowns. It reads existing values where available and writes your new values back into those supported controls.
Other field types are not presented as editable controls in this workflow, so a document can contain form fields that 1into1 detects but does not currently let you change.
A flat PDF can look like a form without being fillable
A scanned application or exported document may contain boxes and lines that visually resemble a form even though there are no interactive fields underneath.
Adobe calls these flat forms: the page has visible form-like content but not native fillable controls. 1into1 Fill PDF will report that no interactive form fields were detected in that case.
Use a visual editing workflow for flat forms
When a PDF is flat, an AcroForm filler has nothing to populate. Use a tool that places visible text, annotations or a drawn signature onto the page instead.
If you need a reusable interactive form rather than a one-time completed copy, the document must first be prepared with actual form fields.
Check the saved PDF in the viewer that matters
After filling the form, preview or reopen the downloaded file and verify the text, checkbox states and dropdown selections.
If the recipient requires the fields to remain editable, save without flattening. If the form is final, flattening can remove the normal interactive controls while keeping the filled appearance.
