How to Edit PDF Title, Author, Subject and Keywords

Change selected PDF document properties locally, understand what each metadata field means, and know what metadata editing does not remove.

Edit PDF metadata

PDF metadata is separate from the visible page

A PDF can store descriptive document properties such as Title, Author, Subject and Keywords separately from the text and images you see on the page.

Adobe Acrobat exposes these values in Document Properties. Changing them can correct an outdated title, wrong author name or publishing keywords without intentionally editing the visible page content.

Review the existing values before changing them

Open the PDF in 1into1 Edit Metadata and inspect the four supported fields: Title, Author, Subject and Keywords.

The editor pre-fills the values it can read so you can correct only the properties that need to change rather than rewriting the whole document identity.

Save the selected document properties

Enter the new values and save an updated copy. The metadata writer updates the standard PDF document-information fields and sets a new modification date.

When the PDF already contains a readable standard XMP packet, 1into1 also attempts to synchronize the matching core title, author, subject and keyword values while preserving unrelated XMP properties.

Metadata editing is not the same as removing hidden data

Changing Title or Author does not remove comments, attachments, forms, JavaScript, bookmarks, hidden text or other document structures.

If your goal is privacy before external sharing rather than correcting document properties, use Deep Sanitize instead of assuming a metadata editor cleans the entire PDF.

Check the downloaded copy

Reopen the saved PDF and inspect its document properties in your usual viewer. Keep the original separately until you have confirmed the updated values and normal visible content.

Some PDFs contain unusual or unreadable XMP structures. 1into1 avoids replacing unfamiliar XMP wholesale when it cannot synchronize it safely.
