How to Resize a PDF to A4 or US Letter

Standardize PDF page dimensions to A4 or US Letter, understand why margins can appear, and keep portrait and landscape pages oriented correctly.

Resize PDF pages

Changing page size is different from changing print settings

A viewer can scale a PDF only when it is printed, but that does not necessarily rewrite the PDF page dimensions. Adobe Acrobat, for example, offers Fit and other page-sizing options in the Print dialog.

1into1 Resize PDF creates a new PDF whose pages use the selected target size, so the standardized page dimensions travel with the downloaded file.

Choose A4 or Letter as the target standard

Select A4 when the receiving workflow requires the ISO-style page size, or US Letter when that is the required paper format. The tool also supports Legal, A3 and A5.

A4 and Letter do not have the same proportions, so a proportional fit cannot simultaneously fill both dimensions without either leaving margins or cropping or distorting content.

Fit to Page preserves the source proportions

Fit to Page calculates one proportional scale factor so the entire source page fits inside the target dimensions, then centers the result.

This avoids stretching, but a thin white band can remain on one axis when the source and target page shapes differ.

Keep landscape pages landscape when needed

With Auto-Detect Orientation enabled, a landscape source page uses the landscape version of the selected target size while portrait pages use portrait orientation.

That is useful for mixed documents containing portrait letters and landscape spreadsheets or diagrams.

Check whether the file stayed vector-based

For clean PDFs, 1into1 embeds and scales the original PDF page into the new target page, preserving vector content through the normal path.

Complex or protected PDFs can use a rendered-image compatibility fallback instead. Reopen the result and test text selection when selectable vector text matters to your workflow.
